Concert by indie rock artist Alex G at the Climate Pledge Arena Garage.
Alex G plays the Climate Pledge Arena Garage on Friday, October 23, at 7:30 PM. It's a phone-free show, so you'll have to leave the camera in your pocket and just listen.
Alex G is the stage name of Alex Giannascoli, a singer-songwriter from Philadelphia. He's touring House of Sugar, his third full-length for Domino and his ninth overall. He describes it as his most meticulous and cohesive album yet, following 2014's DSU and 2015's Beach Music. Giannascoli played most of the guitars, keyboards, and vocals himself, though he brought in collaborators like Samuel Acchione, John Heywood, Tom Kelly, Molly Germer, and Emily Yacina, and worked closely with mixer Jacob Portrait.
There's a bit of a story behind how it was made. He recorded with a clone of the Neumann U87 microphone built by Tom Kelly, a step up from the Samson Q1U USB mic he'd used since he was a teenager. The album cover was painted by his sister, Rachel. And the final track, "SugarHouse," opens with applause recorded at a 2018 concert in St. Louis—the first time he's put a live recording on a studio album.
