92nd Sports Star of the Year Awards

The 92nd Sports Star of the Year Awards are coming to Seattle on Wednesday, February 25, 2027. It's billed as Washington's biggest night out for sports, and it's been around long enough to have a real history: legendary sports editor Royal Brougham founded it in 1935 with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, so it's been celebrating Washington sports for nine decades now.

It's a full evening, not just a quick ceremony. It kicks off with a pre-show reception and a welcome drink, then moves into a silent auction, media row, galleries, and entertainment. After that comes dinner and the live awards show, with an after party to close the night. If you're planning to stay for the whole thing, you'll want to clear your schedule for the entire evening.

The main awards are the Men's and Women's Sports Star of the Year, but there's a whole set of others handed out alongside them: the Royal Brougham Sports Legend Award, the Keith Jackson Media Excellence Award, the Paul G. Allen Humanitarian Award, the Wayne Gittinger Inspirational Youth Award, and Mascot of the Year. The nominees are chosen by the Sports Star Nominations Committee based on athletic achievements from the prior year or season, and there's a rule that anyone who has won a category cannot be nominated in that same category again.

It's an annual tradition that's reached its 92nd edition, so it's one of those things that's become part of the city's sports calendar. The date is Wednesday, February 25, 2027, in Seattle.
