Documentary film Wings Over Water, narrated by Michael Keaton, is shown on the Heikoff Giant Dome IMAX screen at the Fleet Science Center.
Wings Over Water opens today at the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park, where it'll run through October 31. It's a documentary narrated by Michael Keaton that follows three bird species — the Sandhill Crane, the Yellow Warbler, and the Mallard Duck — as they migrate along North America's epic flyways. The film tracks them across a wetland kingdom of connected rivers, lakes, and waterways that's served as wildlife habitat since the retreat of the last ice age more than 10,000 years ago.
It plays on the Heikoff Giant Dome IMAX screen, which is part of the Eugene Heikoff and Marilyn Jacobs Heikoff Dome Theater. That's the world's first IMAX Dome Theater, and its curved NanoSeam screen wraps around the audience, so you're inside the image rather than just watching it from a distance. The theater went through a two-phase refurbishment in 2008 and 2012, and the Fleet Science Center itself has been the city's best-attended museum and a Top 10 San Diego attraction since it opened in 1973.
