A giant-screen documentary that explores the role of volcanoes in creating the Earth, featuring footage of major eruptions from Kilauea to Mount Vesuvius.
Volcanoes: The Fires of Creation is playing at the Fleet Science Center on October 15, 22, and 29, with screenings at 11 AM and 4 PM each day. It's a giant-screen documentary that frames volcanoes as the forces that helped create our worldโthe continents, the air we breathe, and even life itself.
The film follows the story of volcanoes from the Earth's beginnings to the present day, and it doesn't just stay in the abstract. It takes you up close to the 2018 Kilauea eruption in Hawaii, the archaeological remains of Pompeii devastated almost 2,000 years ago by Mount Vesuvius, Mount Fuji in Japan, which is made up of three volcanoes, and the black molten lava of Ol Doinyo Lengai in Tanzania. It's presented locally by The Shiley Foundation and has drawn critical praise, with Fox5SanDiego.com calling it "one of the most breath-taking images you'll ever see."
