A soul and funk super session featuring the house band and guest musicians from the San Diego music scene, held on the first Wednesday of every month.
The Funky Resurrection is back at Lou Lou's Jungle Room on Wednesday, October 7, starting at 7 PM. It's a soul and funk super session, and if you've been around the San Diego scene for a while, the name might ring a bell: it rose from the ashes of the legendary Adams Gone Funky and has since settled in as a regular fixture of the city's music community.
The format is a house band joined by guest musicians drawn from the local scene, and the guest list reads like a who's who of San Diego funk and soul. You'll find members of the Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and The Greyboy Allstars, along with players from The Original Wailers, B-Side Players, Jungle Fire, Tiny Universe, and Mitchum Yacoub's band. The reach goes even further, with musicians from Spacehall Sound Machine, The Neighborhood Kids, Gypsy Sally, Hether, Band of Gringos, The Jazz 88 Allstars, and Big Daddy Kane's band all cycling through. The whole night is built around funk and soul grooves, and since it's a super session, the lineup can shift from one night to the next.
