Live rock and roll performance by the long-running North Carolina band Southern Culture on the Skids at the Casbah venue.
Southern Culture on the Skids play Casbah on Saturday, November 14, at 8 PM. They've been recording and touring since 1983, and the current lineup—Rick Miller on guitar and vocals, Mary Huff on bass and vocals, and Dave Hartman on drums—has been playing together for more than 30 years.
Their career has taken them from all-night North Carolina house parties to late-night television with Conan O'Brien and The Tonight Show, from the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan to playing for inmates at North Carolina correctional facilities. They've shared stages with Link Wray, Loretta Lynn, Hasil Adkins, and Patti Smith, and their music has landed in films and television, been parodied by Weird Al, and even used to sell diamonds and pork sausage. In 2014, the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill honored them with an exhibition, and Rolling Stone described their live shows as "a hell raising rock and roll party."

It's a long run for one lineup, and that's a good part of the draw here. Miller, Huff, and Hartman have been the same three people on stage for three decades, and they're bringing that history to the Casbah. The show is on Saturday, November 14, starting at 8 PM at 2501 Kettner Blvd in San Diego.
