Concert featuring the post-hardcore band Shiner with support from Fotocrime at the Casbah venue.
Shiner play the Casbah on Thursday, October 15, with Fotocrime opening. It's a San Diego stop for the Kansas City band, who've been around since the early nineties.
Shiner started in 1992 under the name Orchid and got noticed pretty quickly. They put out a vinyl EP in 1993 and spent the next few years touring with Sunny Day Real Estate, Chore, Jawbox, Season to Risk, The Jesus Lizard, and Girls Against Boys. Their first full-length, Splay, was recorded at Steve Albini's Chicago studio and came out in 1996, followed by Lula Divinia the next year. Sub Pop put out a 7" single of the songs "Sleep it Off" and "Half Empty" around that time. They released four full-length albums before their final record, The Egg, in 2001, and critics have drawn comparisons to contemporaries like Jawbox, Failure, and Swervedriver. They broke up in 2002, with members later joining bands like Every Time I Die or playing with BlueManGroup.
The group reformed in 2012 and in 2018 put out Schadenfreude, their first full-length after a 15-year hiatus. The current lineup is Allen Epley, Paul Malinowski, Jason Gerken, and Josh Newton.
