A lecture series event featuring students and alumni of the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation discussing current research and future impact, marking the 25th anniversary of the Center.
Birch Aquarium at Scripps is hosting a talk on Monday, October 12, as part of the Jeffrey B. Graham Perspectives on Ocean Science lecture series. This one is a bit different from your usual single-speaker night: three students—current students and alumni of the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (CMBC)—will be presenting together under the title Current Research, Future Impact: Student Perspectives of CMBC.
The talk marks the 25th anniversary of the Center, and the lineup reflects that. By bringing together current students and alumni, the evening connects the work coming out of the CMBC now with the research that came before it. Their combined stories are meant to give a glimpse of the Center's impact on ocean research, discovery, and conservation over the last quarter-century.
The lecture is presented by the Birch Aquarium, which serves as the public outreach center for UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography. If you've never been, it's the kind of place where you can walk through immersive exhibits, do some hands-on activities, and come face-to-face with the animals—including the Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins, the only place on the West Coast where you can see them up close.

Logistically, the talk runs from 7 PM to 8 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM, so you have plenty of time to settle in. It's at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, 2300 Expedition Way in La Jolla. Admission is free for aquarium members and $12 for the general public. Seating is limited and these lectures often sell out, so advanced registration is strongly recommended.
