Three-hour outdoor workshop led by Violet of Botanical Spells to learn bundle dyeing on silk, with all materials included.
San Diego Craft Collective is hosting a botanical bundle dye workshop on Saturday, October 17, from 10 AM to 1 PM. It's a three-hour session held outdoors in the Arts District of Liberty Station, at 2590 Truxtun Rd, Studio 106. The class is led by Violet, a natural dyer and plant lover who runs Botanical Spells.
Bundle dyeing is a technique where you arrange individual plants, flowers, and other natural materials directly on fabric, then steam them to extract the pigments and textures. The heat fixes the colors and patterns into the cloth, so you end up with one-of-a-kind prints rather than a solid wash of color. Over the course of the workshop, you'll work with these materials on silk, and you'll get to see which local plants produce the most vibrant hues. You'll dye two silk textiles to take home, and all the materials are included in the price.
It's aimed at beginners, so you don't need any prior experience with dyeing to join in. The class is open to ages 14 and over, and children aged 6 and up can attend if they're accompanied by an adult. If you're bringing a sibling or you're military or a first responder, there are discounts available, and scholarships are offered as well. A review from a previous session in July 2026 described the garden at the Craft Collective as a lovely, inviting space and mentioned that Violet makes starting out feel approachable.
