A contemporary figure skating theatre piece blending movement, theatre and live music, set in a post-apocalyptic world.
Le Patin Libre brings Melt to the Epstein Family Amphitheater on Thursday, October 8, at 7:30 PM. The Montreal-based company is known for turning figure skating into contemporary art, and Melt is the piece they're touring through the US, with stops in Fair Oaks and Irvine as well.
It's a strange, surreal setup: a scorching post-apocalyptic world where there's no ice and no music. Two skaters are the only ones left, surviving on humor, love, and each other, while a gas-guzzling musician watches them from the sidelines. The show blends movement, theater, and live music, and the company describes it as playful and unexpectedly movingβa celebration of resilience, imagination, and the human capacity to adapt and find meaning when things get uncertain.
On stage, the skating is accompanied by composer and pianist Philippe Le Bon, who provides the live music. Because it's performed outdoors at the Epstein Family Amphitheater, you'll be watching it under the open sky rather than inside a theater.

The venue is the Epstein Family Amphitheater, 9480 Innovation Ln, La Jolla, CA 92093, on the UC San Diego campus.
