Third annual female-fronted Halloween night of spooky music by Sara Jade, Jessie Lark and Celina Rescott & The Embers, plus a costume contest.
Winston's in Ocean Beach hosts the third annual HalloWomen Spooktacular on Saturday, October 17, a female-fronted Halloween concert and costume contest. It's the third year the night has run, and the bill this time around brings together Sara Jade, Jessie Lark, and Celina Rescott & The Embers. Between the sets, there's a costume contest with prizes from sponsors, so if you've been working on a costume, this is the night to wear it.
Knowing the venue helps set the scene. Winston's Beach Club is an intimate live-music bar that's been a part of Ocean Beach since 1986, known for eclectic bookings that run through jam, reggae, rock, hip-hop, and jazz. It sits a block from the sand and steps from the bars and restaurants of Newport Avenue. Over the years it's hosted a long-running Monday residency with the Electric Waste Band, alongside acts like Slightly Stoopid, KRS-One, and Steel Pulse. It's a small room, and the organizers mention it sold out last time, so it's the kind of place that fills up fast.
The music is the main draw, with three female-fronted acts taking the stage throughout the night. Sara Jade, Jessie Lark, and Celina Rescott & The Embers each bring their own sound to the bill, and the costume contest runs alongside them. It's a night of spooky music with prizes for the best costumes, and since it's the third year in a row, it's become a bit of a local Halloween tradition.
