Metalcore band Gideon performs live at the House of Blues San Diego, supported by Bodysnatcher and Volatile Ways on the 'Bodysnatcher: Hell Is Here, Hell Is Home Tour'.
Gideon are playing the House of Blues San Diego on Monday, November 23, as part of the Bodysnatcher: Hell Is Here, Hell Is Home Tour. They're sharing the bill with Bodysnatcher and Volatile Ways, so it's a full night of heavy music rather than a single act.
If you've only heard the newer stuff, it helps to know where they started. Gideon formed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, back in 2008 as a Christian metalcore band, raised as Southern Baptists. They put out a self-titled EP in 2010 and signed to Facedown Records shortly after. For years, that was the sound they were known for—metalcore with a clear faith-based foundation.
Around 2019, though, the band moved in a different direction. They stepped away from those Christian roots and shifted toward a heavier, more hardcore sound, and they did it in one go: that same year they released the EP No Love/No One and the full-length album Out of Control. If you're coming from the early records, that's the pivot to keep in mind—the later material is leaner and pushes harder into hardcore territory than the metalcore they started with.
