FREE Open Mic Comedy Night

The World Famous Mad House Comedy Club is hosting a free open mic comedy night tonight, Monday, October 12, at 8:00 PM. It's one of those nights where the stage is open to anyone who wants to get up and do a set, so you'll see a real mix of what's coming out of the local scene. That means you'll catch some comics who've been around the city for years testing out new bits, alongside people stepping up to a microphone for the first time.

Because it's an open mic, the lineup isn't set in stone. You'll hear a range of styles—some tight, polished sets and some that are clearly still being worked through. That's the whole point of a night like this: it's where new material gets its first run, and you get to hear the jokes before they're finished. It's a bit of a gamble on who ends up being the highlight of the evening, but that's part of the draw.

The club is located at 801 4th Ave in downtown San Diego, right in the Historic Gaslamp Quarter. It's a spot that doesn't take itself too seriously; they describe the room as the place where "careers start and dreams die minutes at a time," which pretty much sums up the open mic experience. If you've ever wondered how a stand-up set actually comes together, this is the place to see it happen in real time.

Entry is free, so there's no cover to get in. The open mics on Monday and Tuesday both run from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and tonight's session starts at 8:00 PM.
