Concert by German deep-house producer Christian Löffler, supported by PARIS (AU), at EQ San Diego.
Christian Löffler plays EQ San Diego on Friday, October 30, with PARIS (AU) opening the night. Löffler is a producer from Greifswald, Germany, whose studio looks out over the southern coast of the Baltic Seaâa detail that often finds its way into the music he makes.
His 2012 debut, A Forest, leaned heavily on samples, but his second album, Mare, shifted toward a more organic sound. On that record, nearly every sound and instrument was self-recorded, with much of the material drawn from field recordings. He's known for a deep-house sound that blends wistful melodies, drum machines, and found sound, and he sings himself on Mare tracks like "Lid," "Pacific," and "Nil."
If you're not familiar with his work, that's a good place to start: the field recordings bring in sounds from the world around him, and the melodies tend to lean more toward the melancholic than the dancefloor. It's deep house that feels like it has a place to sit, rather than just a beat to follow.
