Weekly night of dark 80s music featuring resident DJs Camilla Robina and Faux Velvet, playing all-vinyl sets of post-punk, goth, new wave, and synth.
Blue Monday is back at EQ in Hillcrest this Monday, October 12, and it's a night that's been running there for over seven years. Resident DJs Camilla Robina and Faux Velvet are on the decks, and they play all-vinyl sets, which means they're pulling records from crates rather than running a playlist through an algorithm. The music is dark 80s — post-punk, goth, new wave, glam, death rock, synth, new romantic and industrial — and the whole night is built around that sound.
It's a weekly thing, not a one-off theme night for tourists, so it's more of a neighborhood fixture than a special event. The crowd is described as the people who never stopped dressing the part, and the room also features a curated movie selection by The Pastel Pagan. If you're into the goth and post-punk side of the 80s, this is where that scene still lives in San Diego.
