Stand-up comedy show Belly of the Beast Tour by Bassem Youssef at Balboa Theatre.
Bassem Youssef brings his Belly of the Beast Tour to the Balboa Theatre on Friday, October 9, 2026. It's a stand-up comedy show, and if you're not familiar with his name, it's probably because his biggest hits didn't happen in a comedy club.
Youssef first made a name for himself as the host of Al Bernameg, the Middle East's first political satire show. It started as a five-minute YouTube clip and grew into the region's first online-to-TV conversion, pulling in around 30 million viewers a week and more than a million subscribers. That run earned him a spot on Time's 2013 'Pioneers' list, the International Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists, and a place among Foreign Policy's world thinkers of 2013.
Since then, he's moved into acting, with roles in MO on Netflix, RAMY on Hulu, LIONESS on Paramount+, and UPLOAD on Amazon. He also wrote a children's book, The Magical Reality of Nadia (2021, Scholastic), which is being developed as an animated series. In 2024, he sold over 100,000 tickets to his one-man show THE MIDDLE BEAST, which he performed in theaters and arenas around the world. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
