Akeem Ali performs live at Music Box SD, blending heavy, metaphor-based lines with sultry production in his The Texture Tour.
Akeem Ali brings The Texture Tour to Music Box on Thursday, October 15. He's the only name on the bill, and the night is standing room only.
Ali calls himself "The Greatest Rapper Alive," and he's known for heavy, metaphor-based lines. This show is the third installment of his Texture Tape series, where he compares clothing textures to sultry production and witty lyricism to create a kind of synesthesia. His style has shifted over the years: he started as a backpack rapper and singer, moved into the role of a 70s exploitation maestro, and now works with a mixture of both.
Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, he released the debut EP ROLLIN, which includes the singles "Rollin," "My Name," "Sucka Free," "Be Alright," and "For Real For Real." A 2020 Facebook video, "Keemy Casanova," led to him signing with Lou Williams' Winners United.
