October pumpkin hunting in San Diego can be as simple as a neighborhood stop or as activity-packed as an afternoon with the kids. For a city outing, Goff Family Pumpkin Patch at Liberty Station runs through October 31, with free admission and hours from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Sunday through Thursday and until 9:00 PM Friday and Saturday. It is next to the Loma Club putting green, just inside the north entrance. Dogs are welcome on leash, and weekend food trucks plus a tap truck add to the setting without turning the visit into a full farm day.

In Clairemont, Mr. Jack O' Lanterns is open through November 1 at 3901 Clairemont Drive. Entry is free, while games cost $1 per ticket. The patch combines pumpkin carving with bowling, mini putt, bounce houses, and an animal zoo, giving families several things to do in one stop. It opens at noon on weekdays and 10:00 AM on weekends, closing at 8:00 PM each day. For a shorter visit, Pumpkin Station has free-entry locations in Mission Valley, Rancho Bernardo, Del Mar, and Bonita, with fair rides, inflatables, and photo spots. The multiple locations make it easier to choose a stop near home, although the available activities can vary by site.
If you are willing to leave the city for a larger fall outing, Carlsbad Strawberry Company is open from October 3 through November 1 at 1050 Cannon Road. Admission is $15, with children 3 and under free. Families can choose between corn mazes with or without ghosts, take a tractor ride, see animals, and look for the Jurassic Fright dinosaurs in the cornfield. Pumpkin Palooza, also in Carlsbad, offers a smaller autumn carnival for $3 per person, with rides and children’s activities. In Lakeside, Oma’s Family Farm requires reservations and charges from $16.50; its Thursday-through-Saturday schedule includes a corn maze, wagon rides, giant slides, a petting zoo, and the OmaGoodness Cafe. Dogs are not permitted there.
For a country-style day trip, Julian Farm and Orchard continues through October 26 at 4381 Julian Highway, with $10 admission, a hay-bale maze, vintage tractors, face painting, cider pressing, and a scarecrow contest. Other lower-key choices include Family Christmas Tree Farm in El Cajon, where $6 admission covers a U-cut pumpkin patch, hay maze, and farm animals; Rancho Bernardo Pumpkin Farm, with free entry, a corn maze, and sunflower fields; and Fallbrook Pumpkin Patch, which is free and has local winery beer and wine for purchase. Before heading out, check the listed date, hours, reservation rules, and activity fees for the location you choose, since the season runs on different schedules across the county.
