Legendary American folk and blues singer Tom Rush performs live at the Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater as part of the Harvard Club of San Antonio concert series.
Tom Rush plays the Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater on Friday, October 23, as part of the Harvard Club of San Antonio's 2026-2027 Concert Series. It's a solo show — just his guitar and his voice — and the set weaves together storytelling, ballads and gritty blues.
Rush has been around since the early 1960s, when he started playing Boston-area clubs while studying at Harvard. He held a weekly spot at Club 47 and had two albums out by the time he graduated in 1963. From there he helped shape the folk revival of the 1960s and the renaissance of the 1980s and 1990s, and his music has influenced artists like James Taylor and Garth Brooks.
He also spent a good part of his career championing other songwriters. His early recordings introduced Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor to the public, and his Club 47 concerts brought artists like Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences. So while he's the one on stage, a lot of the names that defined the folk era passed through his orbit.
