A group video exhibition reexamining video art and identity through the work of four alumni artists, exploring self-portraiture and the body as means of self-representation.
Artpace is hosting Self, a video exhibition featuring Alex Bag, Anne Wallace, Kang Sung Lee, and Paul Pfeiffer. It runs from June 12 through November 29, 2026, and all four artists are alumni of Artpace's International Artist-in-Residence program. The show is part of the organization's ongoing video-art programming, and it brings these four back to the same space they once worked in.
Each artist uses video to look at identity, and the pieces they're showing here all circle around self-portraiture, projections of the self, and the body as a way of representing who you are. There's a common thread running through the whole thing: how we see ourselves compared to how others see us. The ways they get there are different—some work with video performance, some with observation, some with physical change and narrative experimentation—but they're all working from that same question of selfhood.
Artpace itself is a nonprofit residency program in San Antonio that's been supporting regional, national, and international artists since 1995 through residencies, exhibitions, and public programs. Self fits right into that, pulling together four people who came through the residency at different times and putting their work side by side.
