Concert by Canadian folk and Americana singer-songwriter Scott Cook at The Pigpen.
Scott Cook plays The Pigpen on Tuesday, October 13, starting at 7 PM. He's a Canadian balladeer from Edmonton, Alberta, who spent over a decade on the road—touring Canada, the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand almost without a break from 2007 until 2020. During those years, he averaged around 150 shows and a dozen summer festivals a year.
He's released seven albums of straight-talking, keenly observant verse, and his latest collection, Tangle of Souls, is a bit different from the rest: it's a cloth-bound, 240-page hardcover of road stories and ruminations. It spent two weeks at number one on CKUA, Alberta's province-wide community radio network. One of the songs from that period, "Say Can You See," ended up as the second most-played song of 2020 on Folk Alliance International's folk radio charts.
Along the way, Cook has picked up a fair bit of recognition. He's been twice nominated for Canadian Folk Music Awards and won the Folk and Acoustic category in the UK Songwriting Contest in both 2013 and 2020. He also took the Folk and Americana category in the 2020 Great American Song Contest, was a Kerrville New Folk Finalist in 2018 and 2021, and was named Falcon Ridge Folk Festival's Most Wanted Artist in 2019. He signed with Fleming Artists in 2021.
