A guided public tour of the highlights at The San Antonio Museum of Art, led by museum docents.
The San Antonio Museum of Art is running a Public Tour: Museum Highlights on Tuesday, October 13. It's a guided walk through the museum's most noted pieces, led by one of their docents, so you get a narrated path rather than just wandering the galleries on your own.
If you've never spent much time there, it helps to know what you're walking into. The museum sits on the San Antonio River Walk in a complex of buildings that used to be the Lone Star Brewery. Inside, the collection is wide-ranging. It holds the most comprehensive ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian art collection in the southern United States, and the Nelson A. Rockefeller Latin American art wing covers the Americas from the ancient period right up to the present. There's also a contemporary collection and an Asian art wing with works from Korea, India, and Japan, including a significant collection of Chinese ceramics.
Because the museum covers so much ground—ancient Mediterranean, Latin American, and Asian art all under one roof—a highlights tour is a good way to see the best of each section without having to map it out yourself. The docents are the ones who lead these, and they're the same people who handle the museum's guided tours in general.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in San Antonio and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

When you're done with the tour, there's a restaurant overlooking the river and a Museum Shop on-site, so you can stick around for a bit. The museum is at 200 West Jones Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78215, right on the River Walk.
