Exhibition and sale of art pieces from the MujerArtes Women's Clay Cooperative, marking their 31st anniversary.
MujerArtes is celebrating its 31st anniversary with an exhibit and sale at Rinconcito de Esperanza, and it's one that runs for a good while. The show opened on Wednesday, September 30, and stays up through Sunday, November 11, so you've got plenty of time to work it into your schedule.
Thirty-one years is a long stretch for any working collective. The MujerArtes Women's Clay Cooperative is a group of women potters who've been making and showing together in San Antonio for over three decades, and this exhibit marks that milestone. The cooperative is run by the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, which also hosts the show at Rinconcito de Esperanza.
The work this year is built around the theme Mujeres de Barro: que Cargan, Que Sirven, Que Crían, y Que Sostienen—Women of Clay: who carry, who serve, who raise, and who sustain. It's a title that points to the domestic and community roles women have held for generations, and the clay itself is a fitting medium for it. Everything on display is available for purchase, so if something speaks to you, you can take it home.
