Concert by Monte Montgomery, an Austin-based guitarist and singer known for sophisticated pop songs and acclaimed guitar work.
Monte Montgomery plays Sam's Burger Joint on Friday, October 16, starting at 8 PM. He's an Austin-based guitarist, songwriter, and singer, and this is a headlining set with him as the sole bill.
If you haven't come across his name, here's the context: Montgomery was discovered by Terry Lickona, the producer of Austin City Limits, and has since been named one of the "Top 50 All-Time Greatest Guitar Players" by Guitar Player magazine. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but moved to Texas as a child and grew up in Austin, where he's won seven consecutive Austin Music Awards. His songs are pop, with a melodic and rhythmic sophistication that's drawn comparisons to Fleetwood Mac, Squeeze, and The Police, while Acoustic Guitar magazine has called his work some of the most mind-boggling guitar playing in the state of Texas.
He recorded his self-titled album live at Masterlink Studio in Nashville with producer John Billings and engineer Rob Clark. Since then, he's performed at ParkPop in Europe and appeared on Live From Daryl's House after a YouTube viewer shared his version of "Sara Smile," which caught Daryl Hall's attention. He's a songwriter as much as a guitarist, so the set is built around his own material rather than just covers.
