Monsternomicon: A Live D&D Comedy Spectacular

Monsternomicon is back at Woodlawn Comedy on Friday, October 16, for another night of live, improvised Dungeons & Dragons. If you've never seen it, the premise is pretty straightforward: a group of the city's funniest improvisers take the stage as a party of adventurers in an absurd high-fantasy world. They roll dice, cast spells, and collect treasure right in front of the room, and because it's improvised, you never quite know where the story is headed.

The thing that sets this apart from a typical improv show is the audience's role. Instead of just watching, the crowd gets to act as the Dungeon Master, dreaming up the challenges and obstacles the party has to survive. So the twists and turns of the adventure come from the people in the seats, and the performers have to react to them on the fly. It's a collaborative thing—the more you lean into it, the more the night changes.

It's also a San Antonio fixture. Monsternomicon has run every month in the city for nearly four years, so it's a regular part of the local scene rather than a one-off. Whether you're a lifelong D&D player or you've never touched a twenty-sided die in your life, you'll get what's happening: a group of people trying to survive a fantasy world that the audience is building around them.

The show runs from 9 PM to 11 PM at the Woodlawn Theater, 1920 Fredericksburg Rd, with doors opening at 8 PM.
