Opera San Antonio presents La Traviata, in the Desmond Heeley production, in collaboration with Austin Opera.
Opera San Antonio brings La Traviata to the H-E-B Performance Hall at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, with two shows running April 8–10, 2027. It's a collaboration with The Orchestra San Antonio and Austin Opera, and they're using the Desmond Heeley production originally created for the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
If you're not familiar with the story, La Traviata follows Violetta through love, sacrifice, and the weight of societal judgment, set to some of Verdi's most beloved music. Heeley's production has been noted for its beauty and grandeur, and it's the same staging that first went out with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. The performances are sung in Italian, with English translations projected above the stage so you can follow the dialogue in real time.

One thing that's worth mentioning: there are free pre-show lectures an hour before each performance. If you've never seen La Traviata before, or if you're just curious about the production, it's a good way to get your bearings before the curtain goes up. The Tobin is at 100 Auditorium Circle in downtown San Antonio, and the shows run April 8–10, 2027, at the H-E-B Performance Hall.
