Bilingual art studio for ages 0-5 inspired by Andean textile traditions; free with museum admission.
The San Antonio Museum of Art is hosting Kids' Studio: Tiny Patterns, Big Stories on Wednesday, October 14, at 10 AM. It's a bilingual art studio for kids ages 0 to 5, so it's designed for the little ones to work on something alongside their parents. The session takes its cue from Andean textile traditions, where weaving and patterns carry a lot of weight, and the kids get to play with those ideas themselves.
Because it's bilingual, the studio works in both English and Spanish, which makes it a good fit if you've got a household that speaks both or if you're just looking for a space where kids can hear and use different languages while they create. The focus is on those Andean patterns—the kind of geometric designs and woven textures you find in textiles from the Andes—and how they can tell a story. It's a hands-on session, so the kids will be making their own things rather than just looking at them.
SAMA is housed in a historic brewery along the Museum Reach of the Riverwalk, and its permanent collections run from Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquities to Asian art, Latin American art, contemporary art and American paintings. The Kids' Studio is part of the museum's free public programming, and general admission is free every Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to noon.
