Blues legend Jimmie Vaughan performs live with The Tilt-A-Whirl Band at Stable Hall in San Antonio.
Jimmie Vaughan & The Tilt-A-Whirl Band play Stable Hall on Friday, October 16, starting at 8 PM. It's a full-band night, with Vaughan leading the Tilt-A-Whirl Band through the blues he's spent decades playing.
If you're not familiar with the name, Jimmie Lawrence Vaughan is a Dallas-born blues guitarist and singer, born March 20, 1951, and the older brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan. His style grew out of the playing of Freddie King, Albert King, B. B. King, and Johnny 'Guitar' Watson, and he first made his mark in the 1970s as a founding member and lead guitarist of The Fabulous Thunderbirds. With them, he recorded four albums that count among the most important 'white blues' recordings of the era. He left the band in 1989 and later recorded the duo album Family Style with Stevie, which came out after his brother died in a helicopter crash in 1990.
His first solo album, Strange Pleasure, arrived in 1994 and set a standard for quality modern roots music; Baby Please Come Home earned a Grammy nod. Now based in Austin, the four-time Grammy winner is described as a vital link between contemporary music and its heritage, a Texas blues legend, and a longtime avatar of retro cool. The Tilt-A-Whirl Band is the group he's touring with, so you'll get a full band sound rather than a stripped-down set.
