A live concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of Labyrinth, with the film shown while a live band performs the soundtrack in sync with David Bowie's vocals.
Jim Henson's Labyrinth: In Concert comes to the H-E-B Performance Hall at the Tobin Center on Tuesday, November 3, as part of a tour marking the 40th anniversary of the 1986 film. The show combines the movie and a live band: Labyrinth plays on an HD screen while a live band performs the full soundtrack in sync with David Bowie's vocals, from "Magic Dance" through the score by Bowie and Trevor Jones.
It's a specific way to see the movie. The film runs as it always has, but the music is played live in the room rather than coming from the track. The band follows the action on screen, so the score hits when it's supposed to, and Bowie's voice remains the one you hear on the songs. If you've seen the film before, you know the music is a huge part of it, and this puts it in the foreground.
The movie itself was directed by Jim Henson and starred Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie, released on June 27, 1986. It's become a cult classic over the years, and this tour is built around that 40th anniversary. The San Antonio stop follows a global run that's hit nearly 100 cities, with more than 60 of those in North America.
