A new stage play about family, trauma, and legacy presented by Turnip Ensemble Theater with audience interaction and talkback.
Turnip Ensemble Theater is bringing Inheritance to the McNutt Co-Lab at UT San Antonio on Sunday, November 15, and Monday, November 16. It's a staged reading of a new play about family, trauma, and legacy, and it doesn't stop at the reading—the show includes audience interaction and a talkback afterward, so you'll get to talk through it with the people on stage.
If you haven't come across them yet, Turnip Ensemble Theater is a San Antonio nonprofit founded in 2022 that focuses on physical and devised theater. They're led by Artistic Director Ruthie Buescher, who holds an M.A. in Educational Theatre from NYU Steinhardt, and their work is built around ensemble-based, collaborative storytelling. This season is a big one for them: it's their first as an Ensemble in Residence with UTSA Arts, and the McNutt Co-Lab on the Southwest Campus is serving as their home base for the year.
Inheritance is one stop on a season that leads up to the world premiere of The Wild Swans in April 2027 at The Josephine Theatre. Between the two, you can see how the company is moving from this staged reading—where the text is the main event and the audience gets to weigh in—toward a full production. If you've been following the local theater scene, this is a good chance to see where they're headed.
