Screening of the film 'High Fidelity' followed by a live conversation and Q&A with John Cusack, moderated by Nathan Cone.
John Cusack is coming to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, November 15, for a screening of High Fidelity followed by a live conversation and Q&A. The movie is the 2000 adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel, and Cusack stars as Rob Gordon, a record store owner in Chicago who sells music the old-fashioned way—on vinyl. He didn't just act in it; he co-produced the film and co-wrote the script with Steve Pink and D.V. DeVincentis. The cast around him includes Jack Black, Lisa Bonet, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and his sister, Joan Cusack.
After the screening, Cusack takes the stage for a conversation and a Q&A session with the audience, moderated by Nathan Cone, the curator of Texas Public Radio's Cinema Tuesdays. It's a good chance to hear him talk through the movie from the inside, especially since he was involved in the writing and producing as well as the lead role. The part earned him a 2001 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical, coming after an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Being John Malkovich.
If you've followed his career, you'll recognize him from 1980s classics like The Sure Thing, Say Anything, and Sixteen Candles, and later from The Grifters, Eight Men Out, Grosse Pointe Blank, Love and Mercy—where he played Brian Wilson—Maps to the Stars, 2012, and The Raven. In 2012, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce gave him a star on the Walk of Fame. He still lives in Chicago.
