Stand-up comedy show by Netflix comedian Derrick Stroup, known for his special 'Nostalgic'.
Derrick Stroup brings his stand-up to the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre on Friday, October 16, at 7 PM. He's an Alabama native who describes his style as a mix of Lewis Black and Ron White, driven by the cadence of an angry auctioneer and the charm of Southern storytelling. If you've seen him before, you know that's a fair summary: the high-energy delivery of a guy who sounds like he's about to lose it, held together by the slow-burn pacing of a Southern storyteller.
Stroup has spent the last decade working his way up through the comedy circuit. He moved to Denver in 2015 and became a regular headliner at Comedy Works, touring alongside comics like Bert Kreischer, Larry the Cable Guy, John Crist and Josh Blue. He won a major Denver-based comedy competition in 2019, was named a JFL New Face in 2023, and spent 2022 on a 42-city tour with John Crist. These days he headlines The Comedy Cellar in New York City and has appeared twice on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, once in 2023 and again in 2025.
There are two other things worth knowing before you go. His Netflix special Nostalgic premiered globally on March 10, so if you've caught that, you've got a good sense of where he's at. He's also set to appear in Nate Bargatze's upcoming film The Breadwinner, which puts him in the company of one of the biggest names in comedy right now.
