The seventh annual burger battle where ten local chefs compete for the title of best burger, with guests voting for the winner across four categories.
Burger Showdown 7.0 returns to The Cherrity Bar on Friday, October 16, for its seventh year as San Antonio's ultimate burger battle. Ten of the city's chefs go head-to-head, and you're the one who decides who wins. It's grown into one of the city's most anticipated culinary events, a night where creativity, technique and pure burger passion collide.
The format is a taste for a cause: you sample a slider-sized creation from each chef, eat Greek-style fries by Modern Chili Queen Diana Anderson and a dessert from Lily's Cookies, and then vote for your favorite burger across four awards: People's Choice Best Burger, Judges' Choice Best Burger, Overall Runner-Up and Kids' Favourite Burger. The competition is produced by Kimberly Suta, who started the event after chefs began talking smack on Facebook; these days it raises money for local charities. This year's beneficiary is SerenityStar Recovery, the nonprofit arm of Comfort Cafe, which provides a safe, sober and spiritual recovery environment for families in Bexar County.
The lineup brings together ten chefs from across the city: Stephannie Beyers (Mexico Ceaty), Isaac Cantu (The Clubs at Cordillera Ranch), Adrian Davila (Double A BBQ), Bobby Lightfoot (Esencia at The St. Anthony Hotel), Phillip Gonyea (Krazy Katsu), Anthony 'Nene' Hernandez (Private Chef), Noymenia 'Nome' Lewis (Nome's Catering), Erica Rodriguez (Cuba 1918) and Michael Urbano (Cappy's). David Elder, Chef Kaius, Mike Dubya and Liam Garcia serve as judges, and DJ Jojo Mojo provides the music throughout the night.
