Intimate evening of songwriting and storytelling with Americana artists Lisa Morales, Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore.
Lisa Morales headlines the Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater on Wednesday, December 2, with special guests Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. The night is presented by Black Box Live, and they're framing it as an intimate evening of songwriting and storytelling rather than a standard concert. That's the best way to think about it: three songwriters sharing the stage and the stories behind the songs.
Morales is the one leading the bill. Her sound blends soul, folk, blues and Americana, and it's rooted in her Mexican heritage. She first made a name for herself as one half of the duo Sisters Morales, which was a staple across the Southwest from the 1980s through 2018. Rolling Stone called her one of the most multifaceted artists to watch.
Dave Alvin is a pioneering force in Americana and American roots music, and he was a founding member of The Blasters. He picked up the Chris Strachwitz Legacy Award in 2023 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association in 2024. His songs have been recorded by Los Lobos, Dwight Yoakam and Nanci Griffith. Jimmie Dale Gilmore, a founding member of The Flatlanders alongside Joe Ely and Butch Hancock, is a pioneering figure in progressive and alternative country. Rolling Stone named him Country Artist of the Year two years in a row, and he's earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Artist.
