Free, outdoor sunset performance of Shakespeare's comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream by the UT San Antonio Dramatic Arts Program, with a Renaissance Faire atmosphere.
UT San Antonio Dramatic Arts opens A Midsummer Night's Dream on Friday, Oct. 16, at Brenan Lawn on the UTSA Main Campus. It runs Friday through Sunday through Oct. 25, with performances starting at 7:30 PM. This is only the second show from the university's fledgling dramatic arts program, so it's a good time to get in on the ground floor.
Director Maia Adamina, an assistant professor of practice in the English department with a theatre background, has leaned into a Renaissance-faire world where the audience are active participants rather than passive observers. She'd originally hoped to stage the play in the Coates Chapel on the university's Southwest Campus, but moved it to the Brenan Lawn, which already has a shell and stage. Assistant Jessi Artnz, an administrative associate and former professional costume designer, helps run the accompanying one-night Rowdy Renaissance Faire, playing her lyre in costume.

Because it's outdoors, you'll want to come prepared. Onsite seating is limited, so bring your own blankets or chairs, and picnics are welcome. The show is free, though cash donations are accepted and patrons can also donate canned goods to the Roadrunner Pantry. The production is staged by the UT San Antonio Dramatic Arts Program, with Adamina directing and Artnz assisting. It opens Friday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 PM at Brenan Lawn, One UTSA Circle, and runs Fridays through Sundays through Oct. 25.
