Three-day hip hop summit featuring workshops, jam sessions and performances by Texas hip hop artists, covering rhymes, sampling, beat-making and breaking.
The International Folk Culture Center is hosting the 3rd Annual Hip Hop We Don't Stop Summit from Thursday, October 15, through Saturday, October 17, at the MARC building on the Our Lady of the Lake University campus. It's a three-day run that builds around the '5 Elements of Hip Hop,' with hands-on workshops leading up to a community jam on the final day. The workshops are open to anyone 12 and up, so it's as much for kids and teens as it is for adults.
Thursday and Friday afternoons are dedicated to the workshops, which are led by what the organizers call 'True Texas Hip Hop artists.' They cover rhymes, tags, sampling, beat-making, music production, and breaking—the actual craft behind the music rather than just watching it from the crowd. Saturday brings it all together with a Community Jam open to all ages and skill levels, so you can get in on the action whether you've been practicing for years or you're just starting out.
The lineup of artists involved includes Vocab, Mexstep, Joaquin Muerte, Triz, Limon, ILash, DFoyMusic, DJMr.G, BBoy Ninja, and BGirls LBoogie and Cutie Pie. Between the MCs, the DJs, and the breakers, there's a good spread of the different elements of the culture represented across the three days.
