A gastro-cultura culinary experience featuring over 20 mole dishes, specialty drinks, and live music to support Chicano/a, Latino/a and indigenous arts and culture.
Centro Cultural Aztlan is hosting the 17th Annual Mole Festival on Thursday, October 15, from 6 PM to 10 PM at 1800 Fredericksburg Rd #103. It's one of the center's biggest fundraising events of the year, and it's built around a simple premise: a lot of local mole in one room.
Throughout the night, you can taste more than 20 different moles, all prepared and donated by San Antonio restaurants, chefs, and community cooks. You get to vote for your favorite as part of a people's choice award, while a panel of secret judges crowns a Molero for the best mole of the night. The lineup of contributors is long—Bedoy Bakery, Fiestas del Mundo Travel, Con Amor Cocina, The Haven Southtown, Frida Fest, Taquería El Patrón, Pico de Gallo Restaurant, Paloma Blanca, Flor de Chiapas, Berta Romo-Rios, Los Laureles Cafe, Gorditas Doña Tota, Sarita's, Mi Frijoles, Chefwurks + Co., Hacienda Patrón, and Violas Ventanas are all on the list. Tito's Handmade Vodka is handling the drinks, and there's live music to keep things going.
Beyond the food, the festival supports Aztlan's work preserving and promoting Chicano/a, Latino/a, and indigenous arts and culture through diversity, education, and the promotion of local artists. That's the fundraising side of the night—the mole you eat helps keep those programs running.
