If you're in Southtown and want Tex-Mex that's been around the block, Tito's Mexican Restaurant is hard to miss. It sits at 955 S Alamo St in the King William Historic District, and locals have been eating and drinking here since 2003. The place is family-owned and run by Mark D. Rodriguez and his sister Denise, who built the menu around authentic Tex-Mex dishes and family recipes from Mexico.

The hours are generous enough for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sunday through Thursday it runs 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with Friday and Saturday stretching to 11:00 PM, so it works as well for a late-night taco as it does for a mid-day meal. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, which is the smart window to drop in if you're after a drink before dinner.
Food-wise, the menu is broad. It starts with handmade flour and corn tortillas, grilled meat and chicken fajitas, and a long list of enchiladas. If you're bringing the family, the combos are the easy route: Mario's Special, Mark's Favorite, and Gabriela's Favorite — one enchilada de camarón with beef fajita — all land around $14.99 to $15.99, with a Mexican Plate at $13.99. For something bigger, the Fajita Plate is $21.99 and the Parrillada Plate for two is $29.99. Tortillas, tortas, burgers, and a chicken strip plate at $9.99 round things out, and dessert runs from sopapillas at $5.99 to Grandma Billie's Mexican Chocolate Cake at $8.99.
Behind the bar, the margaritas get the most praise, backed by a long list of high-end and infused tequilas. On the practical side, the place is kid-friendly, pet-friendly, and handles takeout, delivery, and catering, with Wi-Fi, a TV, and parking on site. It holds a 4.4 rating on MapQuest with 837 reviews and a 4.3 star rating from nearly 3,000 reviews elsewhere, with Gabriela's Favorite Plate and the enchiladas de mole coming up again and again. It's the kind of spot that doesn't need a lot of hype — just a good table and a full menu.
