Annual Race for Campus Safety with 1K, 5K and 10K distances, a family festival and Halloween trick-or-treat activities on campus.
The Lauren McCluskey Race for Campus Safety returns to the McCarthey Family Track and Field at the University of Utah on Saturday, October 31, 2026. It's an annual community race that raises awareness and funds to improve how colleges and universities respond to relationship violence and stalking, inspired by Lauren McCluskey's life and legacy. Because it falls on Halloween morning, it's as much a family outing as it is a run.
There are three distances to choose from: a 1K, a 5K, and a 10K. The course is family- and stroller-friendly, open to participants as young as one year old and up to 80, so you can bring the kids along. If you'd rather run your own route, there's a virtual option too. This year adds a bit more for the little ones: children can trick-or-treat for candy at the vendor booths. Brooks Running is sponsoring weekly running shoe giveaways for registered participants, and the morning will feature appearances by Bumble the Bee, Leo the Lion, Cleo the Lioness, and SWOOP.

Opening speakers and vendors start at 9 AM, so you can get there early to hang out before the racing begins. The 1K starts at 10 AM, and the 5K and 10K follow at 10:15 AM. The 1K is $10.00 plus a $1.60 signup fee; the 5K is $35.00 plus $3.10; and the 10K is $45.00 plus $3.70.
