Holiday cirque show with acrobats, aerialists, comedy and magic, part of the Live! at the Eccles series.
A Magical Cirque Christmas returns to the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater for two performances this December. It's part of the Live! at the Eccles series, and it's become a regular part of the theater's holiday season, drawing families back for more than five years now.
The show brings together acrobats, aerialists, and cirque artists performing gravity-defying acts, displays of strength and agility, comedy, and magic. The whole thing is set to a soundtrack of modern holiday hits, so it's a cirque production built around the music rather than a traditional circus ring. The acrobats and aerialists handle the high-flying stuff, while the comedy and magic fill in the gaps between the bigger acts.
The venue is as much a part of the experience as the show itself. The Eccles is five stories tall, and this production takes place in Delta Hall. The hall's design was inspired by the colors and striated patterns of southern Utah canyons, and it's topped by a star-field ceiling meant to look like a clear, star-filled night. If you've never been inside, it's a good excuse to see the space.
