Workshop on communicating research through storytelling, part of Research Week at NC State, facilitated by Jory Weintraub.
Jory Weintraub leads a workshop on communicating research through storytelling at the Witherspoon Student Center on Monday, October 19, from 10 AM to 11 AM. It's part of Research Week at NC State, the annual campuswide initiative sponsored by the Office of Research and Innovation that puts the university's research, scholarship, and innovation on display.
Weintraub, the director of science engagement, builds the session around research showing that people learn new information more effectively, understand it better, and remember it longer when it's delivered as a story. You'll start with the science of how brains process story-driven information, then move into a simple method for distilling the story of your own research into three sentences. There's time to practice it yourself in an interactive setting, so you'll walk away with something concrete rather than just a set of tips.
The workshop is aimed at faculty, postdocs, and graduate and undergraduate students involved in research, though it's open to anyone. It's the first of a four-part science communication series organized by the College of Sciences, the Office of Research and Innovation, Arts NC State, Outreach and Engagement, and the NC State University Libraries.
