Reggae and dub band Sons of Paradise perform live at The Village Nightlife Complex in Raleigh.
Sons of Paradise play The Village Nightlife Complex on Saturday, November 14, with Stylie and One Culture opening. It's a home-city show for them — they're a reggae and dub band based right here in Raleigh.
At the front are Matt McClanahan on vocals and guitar and Jordan Gee on keyboards. From there, the group has grown to headline venues across the southeast, and they've shared stages with some of the biggest names in reggae: Beres Hammond, Julian Marley, Inner Circle, Fortunate Youth, Ballyhoo, Tropidelic, Bumpin Uglies, The Elovaters, and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. That's a long list of names from across the genre, and it puts their sound in context — they're working in the reggae and dub tradition, and they've spent their time playing alongside acts that range from roots and lovers rock to the more modern, crossover side of the scene.
