A family-focused pop-up library event with story time, books, music, rhymes and movement for young children.
Wake County Public Libraries is bringing the library outdoors at Gipson Play Plaza on Thursday, October 22, from 10 AM to Noon. It's part of a series of pop-ups at the park, with dates also on October 8 and November 5. The whole thing is free, thanks to Dix Park Conservancy donors.
If you've never been, the pop-up basically moves the library's main services into the open air. You can sign up for a library card, check out books, and return borrowed materials right there at the park, so you don't have to make a separate trip to a branch. It's a good way to get your reading sorted while you're already out with the kids.
The main draw is the Family Story Time, which starts at 10:30 AM. It's an interactive session of books, music, rhymes and movement designed to nurture pre-reading skills in young children. If you're bringing little ones, that's the part to plan your morning around.

The setting is a big part of the appeal. Gipson Play Plaza at Dix Park spans 18.5 acres of playgrounds, gathering spaces, gardens, art and skyline views, and it hosts a regular rotation of public activities like weekly Yoga in the Park, the Oak City Salsa Social and an Instrument Petting Zoo. If the weather doesn't cooperate, the program moves inside to the Stone Houses Visitor Center at 830 Umstead Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603. Otherwise, you'll find it at Gipson Play Plaza, 715 Biggs Dr., South Raleigh, Raleigh, NC 27603.
