Lecture series by Kris Door on Egyptian and Nubian art and artifacts, presented in partnership with OLLI at Duke.
Kris Door leads a talk on Egypt and Nubia at the North Carolina Museum of Art on Wednesday, October 21, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. It's part of a lecture series presented in partnership with OLLI at Duke, and it runs in the SECU Auditorium of the museum's East Building.
The talk looks at the relationship between ancient Egypt and Nubia, two powerful Nile Valley civilizations that shared the same river and competed for control of trade networks and resources like gold. Door builds the story around art and artifacts from the museum's own ancient Egyptian collection, alongside pieces from the exhibition Ancient Nubia: Excavating Treasures of the Nile, which is on loan from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. That exhibition focuses on the Kingdom of Kush across nearly 3,000 years and three historical periods, drawing on materials excavated by the Harvard University – Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition more than a century ago.
