A drop-in improvisational theatre class for adults at Leela Improv Theatre, focusing on joyful play and self-expression.
Leela Improv Theatre hosts its drop-in improv class every Thursday night, from 7 PM to 9 PM, at their space in the Glenwood South district. It's an ongoing weekly session, so you can drop in whenever you're in the mood rather than committing to a full course. The class is for adults 18 and up, and it's taught by rotating faculty, so you'll get a different perspective depending on who's leading the room.
Leela describes itself as a holistic improvisational theatre company and training center, and it's been at this for more than 23 years, with over 18,000 students taught across San Francisco and Raleigh. Their style is built around joyful play, authentic self-expression, ensemble connection, and the "Yes, and!" principle that's the bedrock of improv. They frame their classes as neuroscience-backed happiness training designed to build presence, psychological safety, and emotional resilience.
The drop-in session is pitched as Raleigh's most joyful improv class—a way to laugh, connect, and reignite some joy if you're craving more creativity and tired of a life that feels too serious, too routine, or too screen-heavy. After the class wraps, there's an informal hangout, so you can stick around and chat with the people you just spent two hours playing with. If you find yourself coming back regularly, they'll invite you to join Improv 1: Let's Play!, a six-week course you take with the same group.
