A hands-on fiber art workshop where participants use yarn and hot glue to create textured, dimensional compositions on canvas, suitable for ages 16 and up.
Linette Knight is teaching a fiber art workshop at Artspace on Saturday, October 10, from 1 PM to 5 PM. The whole point is to trade in your pencils for yarn and glue: you'll use yarn as a line-making material instead of conventional drawing tools to build a textured, dimensional composition on canvas.
Knight will walk you through how to manipulate the fiber with hot glue to establish lines, contours, patterns and shading. You can work freehand or use stencils to develop figures, objects and more abstract forms, so you can follow a specific image or just see where the yarn takes you. No prior fiber or drawing experience is required, and the session is open to ages 16 and up. By the end, you'll have an original fiber-based artwork to take home.
