Artist reception to meet the photographers of the Art What You Eat exhibition; free and open to the public.
Block Gallery is hosting an artist reception for Art What You Eat on Wednesday, October 14, from 6 to 8 PM. It's part of the Click! Photography Festival, and the whole point is to meet the photographers behind the show. The reception is free and open to the public, so you can just drop in and talk to the people who made the work.
All three photographers here take food as their subject, but they each approach it from a completely different angle. Anna Routh Barzin focuses on the moments of food preparation—the action and the process. Harsha Sipani goes the other way, with frozen-in-time images that hold a single moment still. And Dhanraj Emanuel works from an abstracted, minimalist design, stripping things down to their simplest forms. Together, the work is presented as a reflection on and a celebration of current culture.
The artists come from across the region. Emanuel is based in Greensboro and holds an MFA from the University of Memphis; his work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and Food Network Magazine. Routh Barzin is a commercial photographer from Chapel Hill whose work has been featured in Food & Wine and Our State. Sipani is a Raleigh-based visual artist originally from India.

It's a good chance to see how three different eyes can look at the same subject and come up with something entirely different. The reception is at the Block Gallery in the Raleigh Municipal Building, 222 W. Hargett St. in downtown Raleigh, on Wednesday, October 14, from 6 to 8 PM. Admission is free.
