Your museum. Your stories. Your city opens at Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery on 26 October, running through to 31 October. It's a new exhibition that takes over the museum's ground floor galleries and one on the first floor, so it's a fair bit of space to walk through.

The show is part of Portsmouth100, a year-long centenary celebration marking 100 years since Portsmouth was officially granted city status, with events running across the city. This particular exhibition was co-curated with local communities to reflect the city's last century, so the stories on the walls come from the people who live here rather than just a curator's list. The whole thing was funded by a £249,000 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, which supports work that connects people and communities with the UK's heritage.

By uncovering lesser-known stories and amplifying diverse voices, the project aims to foster a stronger sense of place and identity. It's less about the big, well-known dates and more about the smaller, personal histories that make up the city's recent past. Because it was built with the community, you'll find perspectives in here that don't usually make it into the official record.

It runs from 26 to 31 October at Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery, part of the wider Portsmouth100 celebrations happening across the city.
