This Is Elvis

Ben Portsmouth brings This Is Elvis to The Kings Theatre on Friday 21 August, with the Taking Care of Elvis Band backing him. It's a full-length tribute that runs through Elvis Presley's career, starting with the early rockabilly roots and working its way up to the big Vegas years. The show lasts about two hours and ten minutes, so it's a proper night out rather than a short set.

There's a bit of history behind the name, too. Portsmouth is billed as the closest living performer to Elvis, and in 2012 he was crowned the 'Worldwide Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist' by Elvis Presley Enterprises in Memphis — the first European to get the title. He's performed in more than 20 countries, headlined an Elvis week on the Late Show with David Letterman, and played on the same Las Vegas stage as the King himself.

Because the set follows the timeline of Presley's career, you'll hear the early, stripped-back rock and roll alongside the later, more polished Vegas material, rather than just a handful of the biggest hits. It's a good way to see how the sound changed over the years, and with the full band behind him, it's a full-band show rather than a solo turn.
