Illyria Theatre perform an outdoor swashbuckling production of The Three Musketeers on the Parade Ground at Fort Nelson.
Illyria Theatre are bringing The Three Musketeers to Fort Nelson on Friday 4 September, with the performance starting at 6pm. It's an outdoor production staged on the Parade Ground of the Victorian fort, which sits atop Portsdown Hill, so you'll be watching it open-air rather than inside a theatre.
The play follows the classic tale of young D'Artagnan, who dreams of joining the King's Guard but has to prove himself first. It's a swashbuckling story, and the production puts a good deal of focus on the swordplay, so that's where a lot of the action comes from. If you've never seen it, it's the one with the four friends fighting side by side, and this version keeps that spirit front and centre.
Because it's an outdoor show on the Parade Ground, there's one practical thing you'll need to sort: you bring your own seating. Whether that's a camping chair, a picnic blanket or something in between, it's worth thinking about before you head up the hill, as there aren't seats provided. It's a bit of a climb up to the fort, so keep that in mind when you're packing.
